Erector Set – 16.5” W X 18.25 L ($150)

This quilt grew out of a challenge I gave to myself to work with colors that I do not usually find attractive. I also wanted to explore line and shape and how the space between or behind other shapes can be as visually important as those in the foreground. The shapes I cut reminded me so much of my brother’s erector set from our childhood that the name stuck. I love the way the faintly disjointed black structure hangs together, lurching across the composition, looking as though it is destined to collapse.
